CARSP and ICADTS Announce 2028 Joint International Conference in Toronto
Under the theme “Shared Paths, Shared Responsibility,” road safety professionals from Canada and around the world will come together
TORONTO, Ontario — November 2026 — The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) and the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS) are pleased to announce that they will jointly host the 2028 ICADTS/CARSP Conference, taking place May 28–31, 2028, at the Chelsea Hotel Toronto.
The joint conference will bring together road safety professionals, researchers, practitioners, policymakers and other leaders from Canada and around the world for several days of knowledge sharing, professional development and international collaboration.
Under the theme “Shared Paths, Shared Responsibility,” the conference will highlight the importance of collaboration across disciplines, sectors and countries in creating safer transportation systems. The theme reflects the shared responsibility of governments, organizations, researchers, practitioners and communities in preventing deaths and injuries, while recognizing the many different paths toward improving road safety.
The partnership brings together two organizations with long histories of advancing transportation safety.
CARSP is Canada's national association for road safety professionals and has been bringing together the multidisciplinary road safety community since 1985. The 2028 conference will mark CARSP's 37th national conference.
ICADTS is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to reducing death and injury associated with alcohol and drug use by operators of vehicles across all modes of transportation. Its international conference brings together expertise from fields including law, medicine, public health, law enforcement, education, human factors, research and public policy.
“Hosting this conference together creates an exciting opportunity to connect Canada's road safety community with colleagues and expertise from around the world,” said Dr. Liraz Fridman, President of CARSP. “The challenges we are working to address increasingly cross disciplines and borders. Bringing these communities together gives us an opportunity to learn from one another, build new relationships and strengthen our collective efforts to improve road safety.”
The conference is expected to attract approximately 300 delegates, with a scientific and technical program featuring invited speakers, keynote presentations, panel discussions and presentations selected through an international Call for Abstracts.
The collaboration will build on the strengths and networks of both organizations, creating opportunities to share emerging research, practical experience, policy approaches and innovative solutions while fostering stronger connections among road safety professionals internationally.
“ICADTS is delighted to partner with CARSP to bring our international conference community to Toronto in 2028. This is a wonderful opportunity for both institutions to share international expertise, in a welcoming and scholarly environment provided by the city of Toronto - and in a country that in many ways represents the breeding grounds where great ideas can flourish. We are certain that this joint conference will exceed our expectations, and look forward to meeting our colleagues in 2028,” said Dr. Flavio Pechansky, President of ICADTS.
Toronto provides an ideal setting for the joint event, offering an accessible international destination and an opportunity to showcase Canadian road safety research, policy and practice while welcoming perspectives and expertise from around the world.
