Become a Mentor – Make a Meaningful Impact

Mentoring is a powerful way to support emerging professionals while strengthening your own leadership and reflective skills. We invite experienced professionals to join our Mentorship Program and contribute to the growth, confidence, and development of motivated mentees.

As a mentor, you will be paired with a mentee for a defined period and work together in a structured, yet flexible mentoring relationship built on trust, learning, and mutual respect.

What Does Being a Mentor Involve?

Mentors are asked to:

  • Agree on clear expectations with their mentee, including goals, meeting frequency, format (online or in person), and duration
  • Prepare for and actively engage in mentoring sessions, especially the first meeting, which sets the foundation for the relationship
  • Listen, ask thoughtful questions, and support mentees in reflecting on their goals, challenges, and career development
  • Share relevant experiences, insights, and lessons learned from your own career
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement
  • Support problem-solving, goal setting, and professional growth
  • Draw on your network where appropriate and help mentees build long-term developmental connections

Mentoring is not about giving all the answers—it is about empowering mentees to think critically, build confidence, and find clarity and purpose.

Areas Where Mentors Commonly Support Mentees

Depending on your expertise and the mentee’s needs, mentoring conversations may include:

  • Career development and decision-making
  • Research planning and project design
  • Funding applications and advocacy
  • Program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Professional networking and leadership development

What Do You Gain as a Mentor?

Mentors often report that the experience is both rewarding and transformational. Through mentoring, you can:

  • Strengthen your leadership, listening, and coaching skills
  • Gain fresh perspectives from your mentee
  • Reflect on your own career journey and expertise
  • Contribute meaningfully to the development of future professionals
  • Be part of a supportive and values-driven mentoring community

Mentoring is a two-way learning experience—many mentors find they learn just as much as they give.
